Jeff Kent Retires
Jeff Kent retired today. He finishes with a .290/.356/.500 line, a career 123 ops+ with 2461 hits, 377 homers, and 1518 RBI. He has the most homers ever by a 2b Impressive resume if you ask me. With Robbie Alomar and Jeff Kent the 90s saw a great trio of 2b, all among the top 2b that has ever played the game, and Kent including the other two belong in the Hall of Fame. It'll be interesting to see exactly where Kent ranks among the top 2b off all time, with Alomar and Biggio. Are they all top 10? I think Kent and Biggio are up on Alomar but among those which would I take? I'm not sure, Biggio got on base more, stole a ton more bases and was a gold glover. Kent had more power and aged a little more gracefully still slugging .500 into his 30s. Forced to choose I think I'd take Biggio. That's no knock on Kent, Biggio is a shoein Hall of Famer especially with the auto vote in of 3,000 hits, but Kent should be in not too long after him.
