| Don't worry Jason, Hank Aaron didn't win the Rookie of the Year award either. |
There isn't much to comment on as both were viable candidates. I would have chosen Austin Jackson over Feliz because you can't just "find" any old center fielder as easily as you might a closer, but I won't argue the choice.
Many people may be glad or feel Posey deserved the award over Heyward but it's important to remember these things:
- The Playoffs don't count. The votes are counted before the postseason begins, so the fact that Posey helped lead the Giants to the World Series is irrelevant
- Posey played in 105 games, Heyward 136.
- Posey did play the harder position, but he only did so 75 times.
If Posey played all of his games at catcher then he'd have a more compelling case, but he only played 75 games behind the plate while Heyward played 136 in right field, and played it very well. Some said Posey was a great catcher, some said he wasn't, and without any real legitimate measure of catcher defense it's hard to give the edge to Posey with only 75 games behind the dish.
Regardless of how you feel, after seeing how the Gold Glove awards went we ought to be happy with these results, right?
