Obligatory Rockies Post

Right now the Rockies are playing pretty, pretty well.  Even though they have lost their last two, they are only 2.5 games back of the Padres (and currently beating them 5-2 today) for the division, and 3 games back of the Braves for the Wild Card.  Two weeks ago I said they were primed for another September run, and it looks like that's just what they're doing.  It's not only out of the realm of possibilities, but possibly likely, that the Rockies are the best team in the National League right now and for the post season. Obviously they have to get there first, but their remaining games are against the Dodgers (6), Giants (3), Diamondbacks (3), and Cardinals (3).  Of those, only the Giants are going to have a (realistic) shot at the postseason.

The Phillies are the current class of the NL and have an unreal top 3 of the rotation, but would it surprise you to hear that the Rockies have a better team FIP than the Phillies?  It's actually 3rd in the National League, behind the Padres and Braves and both of those teams are on the bubble.  That means it's possible that the Rockies, by certain measures, could have the best pitching in the National League!  Their lineup ain't to shabby either mind you.  They have 2 legitamate MVP candidates in CarGo and Tulo.  Say what you will about playing in Coors Field, the fact is that CarGo is leading the league in batting (.340) with loads of HRs and RBI on a contending team.  Tulowitzki meanwhile is 5th in the NL in WAR (fangraphs) even though he's missed 30 or so games,  plays plus defense at SS and is 4th in the NL in wOBA.  Tulo has missed time but essentially he's been the 4th best hitter in the NL while playing SS and playing it damn well.*

*It should also be noted that at this point in time when I am about to finish the post, the Rockies now lead 9-2 and Tulowitzki has 2 homers and 7 RBI

The Rockies obviously have the hitting, they now have the pitching, they have the scheduling, and if you believe in the sort of thing they have the momentum.  Maybe they make the playoffs, maybe the won't.  Maybe they'll do damage in the playoffs, maybe they won't, but any way you want to slice it, it's going to be fun to watch.
