I'm assuming that's what the Rangers are hoping with their recent acquisition of Jeff Francoeur, who is now on his 3rd organization.
They didn't give up much to get him (Joaquin Arias) and the Rangers are a little weak in the OF with Cruz and Hamilton somewhat hurt/nagging injuries. But let's not forget Frenchie is bad, like really really bad. He's supposed to platoon and only hit against lefties, but it's not like he's even good against lefties. This year he's atrocious against righties with a .628 OPS, and he's kinda 'meh' against lefties with a .761 OPS. His platoon partner, lefty batting David Murphy, has a .745 OPS against lefites this year and .700 career. The Rangers need a healthy right handed hitting OF and Frenchie is that, but I'd have to think they could have gotten better no?
Maybe Francoeur will help out a little on some crappy 4th or 5th left handed starter, or a last guy in a bullpen, but when it comes to October and the Rangers are facing Liriano, Price, or Sabathia, I don't think they'll enjoy penciling in Francoeur into the lineup.
Frenchie hasn't been good since his first 70 games in 2005. Since 2006 he has an 87 OPS+. Since 2008 he hasn't even been a positive in the field producing which has resulted in a -2.6 WAR (that's right NEGATIVE). I mean I get it, the Rangers need a right handed OF that has a pulse and Frenchie fills that need, but I can't help but think he's still getting chances because of a 70 game stint 4 years ago.
